John R. Elwell Construction Co., Inc. is one of, if not, the oldest family owned construction firm in South Florida. We specialize in quality construction and customer satisfaction by combining both quality and value to our clients, as evidenced by our trade references.

Our philosophy has been and always will be "hands on". Edwin C. Elwell, President and C.E.O of the organization is personally involved in every project built. In essence, he is the project manager of all the projects we build. When a client has a challenge, that client speaks to Ed personally.

Our services include, but are not necessarily limited to; project conceptual design, building design, site planning, systems analysis and project construction and construction management. Our firm performs many of the construction services with our own employees, which is a rare concept in today's construction industry.

Our firm specializes in the most challenging projects for many large national corporations. The business statement for the firm is to provide the client with personal detailed customer service along with the highest quality of workmanship. The firm accomplishes this from being innovative in the construction industry, assisted by the latest technologies. The firm provides as built drawings from AutoCADLT 2000. Additionally, the firm coordinates all trades with intricate detailed coordination drawings assuring that all work is installed with the least amount of conflicts.

With over fifty years of experience, the firm has completed practically every type of building construction project imaginable. Commercial construction projects include: low rise office buildings, banks, aftercare facilities (mausoleums), shopping centers, warehouses, parking garages, distribution centers, hotels, apartments and rental car facilities. Industrial construction projects include: metal fabrication factories, galvanizing plants, glass tempering factories, refrigerated food processing facilities, newspaper printing facilities, telecommunications facilities and injection molded plastic factories. Institutional projects include: hospitals, medical treatment facilities, medical offices, schools, auditoriums, libraries, gymnasiums, adult congregate living facilities and intermediate care facilities for the mentally challenged. Residential projects include: award winning custom single family residences.

john r. elwell construction co., inc. has developed a working relationship with many local and national award winning architecture firms, and strongly believes in the "team" concept, working closely with design firms on all aspects of the project, to develop the project the client envisions.

About the Key Personnel:

Edwin C. Elwell, President-Treasurer, is a graduate Civil Engineer from Bucknell University - 1975 and holds a State-Wide General Contractors License. Worked in the business first as a laborer and then as a carpenter, during the summers and holidays from 1967 until graduation from college. He then worked as Project Superintendent, Estimator & Project Manager. Now manages the business, overseeing all operations. He continues his education in the construction industry from both hands on experience, publications and continuing education beyond the state mandated requirements. He possesses a comprehensive knowledge of all Codes wherein the firm conducts business, including but not limited to; South Florida Building Code, Standard Building Code and NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code). His hands on approach to each and every project has given him a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the working systems of the construction industry, which provides the Client the most efficient building systems, for their particular needs.

Paul J. Houlihan, Project Manager, holds a four year certification from the Joint Apprentice Carpenters Training Facility in Broward County and holds a State-Wide General Contractors License. He has been in the construction industry since 1977, and with our firm in a supervisory position since 1982.

Harry John Elwell, Project Manager. He has been with our firm since 1990 and supervisor since 2000. He holds a State-Wide General Contractors License.
